Torino, Italia

Today I attended an international church – The International Church of Turin, to be exact – located in the Jolly Hotel. This church is made up of believers from all over the world, as in Romania, South Africa, England, Finland, North Africa, Switzerland, the list goes on. Welcomed warmly by all, especially the joyous and hilarious Brit, Robert, who couldn’t help but remind me of the musician from Love Actually. All have a unique story and reason why or how they ended up here in Italy, some for over 30 years and others just a few days. But all love the Lord and what an amazing thing to bring together so many nations and cultures and experiences. Now church is over, the songs have been sung and the preaching preached. Meeting people and mingling with people who speak English and love the Lord, Jen and I are summoned first by Adina (Romania) to sing in the choir. We both look at each other and start to laugh and say, “Maybe next week,” as my cold is still running wild and makes my cringe to think of the lovely alto I’d surly be if I tried to sing as this point in the head cold process. She tells us its for the Christmas program, but doesn’t bother us anymore about singing. Betsy, however, is not understanding and kindly forces the unsure American girls up to the front and into the soprano section with music suddenly in hand. Welcome to the international choir of 15. The first measure is started and I begin to cry from laughing so hard; it simply cannot be helped. “What are we doing?” Jen and I glance at one another stifling the giggles of this absurd situation – not only are we singing in a choir of 15 a song about “Will the world be ready for Jesus?” with people we don’t know, we also have bad colds that cause us to truly sound like men though we are in the soprano section – all this in a hotel ballroom with a keyboard and sheet music in a city of Italy. It was a moment, I’ll say that. But after about half an hour of rehearsal, I have to admit that it sounds great and this truly is a wonderful experience.
